The great price of saints paid 

As the great apostles in the bible suffered, so too the great servants of God went through trials throughout history.

 Matthew 5:10-12; Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.  Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

St. Richardis of Andlou(839-895) was a French noblewoman who became Holy Roman Empress when her husband (known as Charles the Fat) was crowned emperor. When they had been married for nearly 20 years, Charles accused Richardis of infidelity, likely for political reasons. So eager was she to clear her name that she underwent a trial by fire; when she survived this trial, the vindicated Richardis refused to return to her husband. She founded a Benedictine Abbey and spent the rest of her life there instead.

Margaret Clitherow, During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, Roman Catholics were forced to go underground. She allowed masses to be performed in her home secretly, and she also harboured priests there. Margaret fell afoul of a law instituted in 1583 that imposed the death penalty for such crimes, and her sentence was to be pressed to death.

St. Dymphna, Beheaded. St. Bartholomew, Flayed and so many others were persecuted. We remember them for their veal into doing the work of God and we take courage not to give up from doing the good works of GOD.
