The Best Food of Psalms Every worried soul Needs
As Christians, we are called to trust in God every day, but putting your total trust in Him can be hard some days. We are continually battling our fears, worries, and anxieties. The more we worry, the more it can hurt our physical, mental, and emotional health. When we let our fears run the show, we lose sight of our peace. Our inner calm is so important. If you’re looking to overcome your fears and worries, a great place to turn to is Scripture, particularly the Book of Psalms. Some of these psalms can pull you out of your deepest pit. Here are six beautiful psalms for a worried spirit.
Psalm 23
Psalm 23 is a beautiful reminder for a worried spirit because it reminds you that the Lord is with you, wherever you go. Psalm 23:1-3 says, “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” There are times when God will tell us that we need to be strong and courageous for what’s to come later. If you are dealing with a problematic situation, and your spirit is worried, you should have comfort knowing that God is next to you wherever you go.
Psalm 27
Psalm 27:1-3 says, “God, You are my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear? You are the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked come against me to eat up my flesh, my enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell. Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear!”
King David wrote this psalm during a season of trouble. We recognize from this text that God is the light of David’s life. He didn’t despair in the darkness and let it ultimately prevail. He allowed the Lord to fill His life, and that life is filled with life.
Often, we can go over certain verses from Scripture repeatedly and fail to take it the way God wants us to. God wants us to remember that we have nothing to fear. One of the reasons God warns us about fear is that it can keep us from the blessings that God has awaiting us. When you are worried, hold onto the promises that God is there with you. With him upholding you by His righteous hand, there is no reason to be afraid.
Psalm 34
This psalm is one for the broken-hearted. Psalm 34:1-10 says, “I will bless You at all times. Your praise will continually be in my mouth. I sought You, Lord, and You heard me, You delivered me from all my fears. When we look to You, we are radiant. Your angels encamp all around those who fear You and You deliver us. Help me to taste and see that You are good, oh Lord. You say I will be blessed when I trust You. Those who seek You lack no good thing.” We see from these passages that God is close to the broken-hearted. When we are at our weakest, God gives us the strength to begin anew. When we are at our lowest point, God will provide us with strength.
Psalm 46
Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” We know that a refuge is a safe place. When Scripture mentions God as our refuge, it is saying that God is our safe place when we are in need of protection from someone or something. When we know that God is our refuge, it empowers us to trust God deeply. We shouldn’t fear situations or people. There is no situation we will take on that is not in God’s control. The greatest place to be when your soul is worried is right next to God.
Psalm 61
Psalm 61:1-3 says, “Hear my cry, O God; from the ends of the earth I cry to You when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For you are a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.” This is a beautiful promise from God. When a believer places their full confidence in God, they will possess an overwhelming peace. That same peace transcends all understanding. A believer who knows peace can find serenity during turmoil. When your soul is worried, hold onto God’s promise that He is, in fact, stronger than the enemy.
Psalm 91
Psalm 91 is another psalm about trust. Psalm 91:2 says, “You are my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust” (Psalm 91:2). What is so wonderful about these verses is that it reminds us that God is in full control. He will take care of the big stuff and the little stuff. While it’s common for us to worry about every little thing that is taking place in our lives, we shouldn’t be hung up on those things. We should cast our cares on our Heavenly Father and ultimately trust in the wisdom He provides us.
It is all too common for us to allow worry, anxiety, and fear to dominate our spirits. The enemy wants to use these things against us to be weak and lose sight of God. When we trust in God in every little circumstance, our soul can find rest and peace. When you trust in the Lord with all of your heart, you don’t need to allow worry to dominate your space.
